hank you so much for visiting Kayagirl. My name is Tanya Monaghan and I am very excited to have the opportunity to share all that inspires me. Here is a little bit about my journey and what Kayagirl means to me…I am a Cali girl who was born in South Africa. I have lived 15 years of my life in South Africa and I feel very connected to this beautiful country and its soul. Kaya means home in Zulu. Kayagirl or “homegirl” is a tribute to my roots in South Africa, and connects them to my home and lifestyle in California.
I don’t necessarily follow trends, I just gravitate towards styles that feel good to me and I have fun mixing it up.
I was lucky enough to start Kayagirl a little over a year ago simply as a hobby and creative outlet. I have a strong foundation in fashion after working as fashion editor for Glamour Magazine South Africa, followed by years of freelance fashion styling. I knew nothing about blogging, but the idea intrigued me as I found myself investing countless hours mulling through other fashion blogs and Pinterest pages while being a stay at home mom with my three children, and then it occurred to me, “I can do this!”
I approach my style as an outward expression of who I am and how I feel. I don’t necessarily follow trends, I just gravitate towards styles that feel good to me and I have fun mixing it up. Having this blog has given me the forum to share my love for my community, fashion, photography, and travel all in one place. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
